EU-LDC Themes - Development Co-operation - Policy

Development co-operation: Denmark

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Denmark focuses on the following policy issues: EU, security, trade, the UN, Eastern Europe, human rights and refugees. Go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website for more information (only available in Danish)

Very little information is available in English. There are four publications available in English that relate to development co-operation. These publications include:

Until 1962 all Danish development aid flowed to the UN. In 1962 Denmark provided bilateral aid for the first time. This led in 1971 to the establishment of the Danish International Development Agency (Danida). The Ministry of foreign Affairs is divided into a North group and a South group. Danida is an integral part of the South Group. This South group furthermore consists of The Minister for development co-operation, the Board of Development Assistance Co-operation and the Council of Development Assistance Co-operation. The parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee lays down the criteria for the selection of program co-operation countries.

For more information on Danida, see the Danida web-site (only available in Danish)

The amount and distribution of official development assistance of Denmark for the period 1998-99 can be found at the DAC website
