EU-LDC Themes - Development Co-operation - Policy

Development Co-operation: Austria

Development co-operation is one of the tasks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Austria

The objective of the Austrian Development Co-operation is to promote sustainable economic development in its partner countries, which should have immediate repercussions on the fight against poverty. In this respect the main focus has been placed on the least developed countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America as well as the poorest populations in other countries.

The principles of respect for human rights, promotion of democratic structures and good governance, gender equality and environmental protection form the basis of the Austrian Development Co-operation, and these principles should be taken into account in all programmes and projects. In addition special emphasis is placed on the fields of education and training

More information on the development co-operation policy of Austria can be found at the website of the Ministry of foreign Affairs

The amount and distribution of official development assistance of Austria in the period 1998-99 can be found at the DAC website.
