The EU-LDC Network engages in a range of
activities aimed at improving the exchange of information,
analysis, experience and views on issues relevant to economic
relations and co-operation between the European Union and
developing countries.
The EU-LDC Network website has been created to
provide a structured and high quality source for the exchange
of information on key aspects of EU-LDC economic relations.
The website will:
-
Monitor developments in the policy and
academic research fields, as well as information coming
from civil society and other organisations whose
activities are orientated towards the Network’s themes
of interest.
-
Provide links to publications and other
websites that may be of interest to those seeking further
information on EU-LDC economic relations and co-operation.
-
Provide background information of
relevance to website users, such as a glossary of trade
and aid terms, and a guide to EU institutions.
-
Provide a question and answer helpdesk
(Q&A desk) for Network members. The helpdesk will
respond to questions and requests for information relating
to substantive issues of EU-LDC co-operation.
-
Host discussion forums on selected topics
with the aim of engaging participants in research based
policy analysis and comment.
The Network’s electronic newsletter, to be
published every two weeks, will be available via the website.
The newsletter will provide regular updates on the content of
the website and information on activities of the EU-LDC
Network, plus other news items of interest.
Published 3 times per year, EU-LDC Brief, will
contain articles providing more in depth coverage on specific
Network themes and topics, including specially commissioned
contributions. It will be available in electronic format and
hardcopy.
The Annual Conference provides an opportunity
to bring together policy makers, academics and other
interested parties from developing countries, Europe and other
industrialised countries.
In addition to the Annual Conference, the
Network will aim to facilitate conferences, workshops and
meetings on topics relevant to EU-LDC economic relations, or
to issues in the field of economic co-operation that are of
regional priority and specific interest to Network members.
The EU-LDC Network is not in itself a research
network and does not have funds available to directly support
research activities. It is nonetheless the intention that the
Network should assist interaction among Network members on
(joint) research topics, particularly by using its membership
base in the creation of North-South and South-South joint
research partnerships.
Further, the Network will provide assistance
for mobilising funding to support specific project initiatives
to be undertaken or instigated by its regional partners on a
project by project basis. Moreover, it is the intention that,
both in the EU and in developing countries, the Network will
provide scholarship support to PhD students whose studies are
relevant to the Network’s areas of interest.
Strengthening Network activities in developing
regions is seen as a priority for future development.
Additional funds will be sought, for example, for joint
research and analysis of specific policy issues, and for
regional conferences and meetings.
