The Indira Gandhi Institute of Development
Research (IGIDR), Mumbai, India
IGIDR was established in 1987 to carry out
research on development issues from a multi-disciplinary point of
view.
The aims and objectives of the Institute are to
promote and conduct research on development (in its economic,
technological, social, political and ecological aspects) from a
broad inter- disciplinary perspective; to gain insights into the
process of development and alternative policy options and to
disseminate the knowledge so gained
IGIDR undertakes activities in the following
areas:
- Research,
with, among others, an emphasis on:
interdependence among nations and its impact on development
strategies and policy options; the influence of international
trading, financial and economic systems on countries; the
analytical foundations of the positions of developing countries in
international forums and negotiations; and developmental issues
relating to poverty, agriculture, industry, energy, environment,
etc., their impact on trade and vice versa.

under four series: books/monographs;
proceedings/project reports of seminars and conferences organised
by IGIDR and reports of project research; discussion papers;
reprints/preprints of published research papers of IGIDR staff.

- Teaching,
IGIDR offers Master’s and Doctoral programmes
in Development Studies.

The library of the Institute aims to be a
leading research library in the fields of development studies,
development economics, energy and environmental studies, general
economics and Indian economy
